SHIPPING NOW How Close, the debut monograph by Brice Bischoff, is the result of over five years and hundreds of pictures made at Red Rock Canyon in the Mojave Desert. Bischoff's art takes multiple forms, auric, painterly abstractions in space, kiln-formed glass sculptures, and photographic images. Using visual allegory spanning three chapters, How Close describes a transformational intimacy with the canyon. The shifting light of the desert is poetically translated with a large format camera on color negative film. In addition to traditional photographic techniques, Bischoff uses experimental in-camera effects, sculptural interventions, and improvised choreography creating images that suggest an immersion in deep time. The photographs in How Close are both ephemeral land art documentation and a witness to unreal natural phenomena.
